This program is designed for individuals who have already earned degrees and may be working in the health professions, i.e., radiologic technologists, RN’s, radiation therapists, nuclear medicine technologists, respiratory therapists. The program will provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities in sonography for graduates to work as sonographers and function as vital members of the healthcare team. Upon successful completion of the program, students will have obtained the didactic and clinical prerequisites required to apply to take the physics, abdomen, and obstetrical & gynecological exams through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), the gold standard in the profession.
The mission of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program is to:
- Encourage motivated individuals who are dedicated to pursuing excellence in Diagnostic Medical Sonography;
- Provide a quality education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography;
- Offer educational experiences in the classroom, the campus laboratory, and in a variety of clinical settings with emphasis on exceptional patient care; and
- Educate individuals to be competent and knowledgeable sonographers who demonstrate critical thinking and effective communication skills.
Upon successful completion of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, graduates will be able to:
- Execute effective communication in the medical imaging department to provide quality patient care;
- Demonstrate problem solving and critical thinking skills to evaluate and address a variety of situations in sonography;
- Demonstrate competency in performing sonography procedures;
- Devise a plan for professional development and growth;
- Graduates will achieve national certification in sonography;
- Graduates will become employed in sonography within six months of graduation.
